Deutscher Musik Verein (DMV)

The mission of the DMV is to preserve and celebrate German musical heritage, enhance the musicianship of instrumentalists, and foster camaraderie among musicians while having fun!
As a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, they raise funds through performances at community festivals, concerts, and donations. These funds are used for acquiring instruments, music, travel costs, and supporting our local German community in Cleveland.
Each spring, they host their annual Jägerfest celebration, featuring a mix of traditional and modern German Blaskapelle music, a special guest performance, a Cleveland-style Polka Dance Band, and a selection of traditional German food and beverages.
As a Blaskapelle (Brass Band), the DMV has over 50 musicians, typically presenting 20-30 performers at events, with about 20 performances each year across greater Cleveland and beyond, including three tours to Germany and Austria. This diverse group includes executives, skilled tradespeople, students, and retirees, all united by a passion for music and community. Led by Direktor Fred Ziwich, a prominent figure in the polka scene, the DMV benefits from his award-winning expertise in composing and arranging music.
Since 2013, they have been based at the Donauschwaben German-American Cultural Center (DGACC) in Olmsted Township, offering various activities for members.
